Muscles is a gorgeous, purebred boxer that turned 1 year old in December 2010. Sadly, he spent nearly the whole first year of his life on a chain, with inadequate, and possibly inhumane, human contact, and extremely limited socialization. He was not exposed to the pleasures the world has to offer. As a result, when he first came into rescue, everything was terrifying to him. It was heartbreaking to see how he reacted to meeting people and going to new places.
He has spent several months working with a trainer who has done a tremendous job at helping him overcome his fears, build his social skills and allow him to slowly learn to relax and have fun. He has come such a long way and is ready to find a home that will understand his history and fears, will be patient with him, and continue to show him that the world is filled with wonderful places for a dog to explore and enjoy.
Muscles needs an adult only home, one that is fairly calm and quiet in order for him to continue to feel safe and secure and not frightened and startled. Muscles does really well when walked on leash, and the home for him must do a lot of walking to help him continue to gain trust in the outside world. While a fenced in yard is generally a good thing, it is preferred that he be walked on leash as opposed to being allowed out unattended in a fenced yard as he gets nervous if anyone approaches a fence that is low enough to reach over. He is likely best in a home with NO CATS, and NO SMALL Dogs. However, he may be fine with a medium to large breed female dog that can show him how good his life will be as a beloved family member.
Muscles needs an experienced dog owner who will be committed to helping him overcome his past. Showing Muscles how wonderful home life can be and helping him get over the hurdles of the past, will truly be rewarding, resulting in a great companion. It will be necessary for anyone seriously considering to add this great boy as a family member, to meet him at the trainer’s facility in the vicinity of Flemington, New Jersey.
